Zingeber Spectabile, beehive ginger flower, gingerwort



This is an unusual flower from the ginger family.


This easily grows in the tropics and I have found them at cool Buenos Aires Resort, Salvador Benedicto towns and even at our home, planted by my sister in Bacolod City, Negros Island where I took the photos.

It is reported that the small flowers which grow in pairs, last only for a day! but the main flower bulb inflorescence can last for months as a cut flower!
