alibhon- a medicinal plant for coughs.
I was surprised to find an unknown tall shrub growing at my sister's Fairfield school. My retired engineer brother told
me that it was an alibhon, which Google wonderfully matched with sambong!. The most astounding feature of these plants are the micro leaves growing at the base of each wide leaf. This plant has a medicinal value for alleviating symptoms of common coughs, urinary tract infections and the common colds. It contains chemicals like camphor and limomene and trace amounts of borneol, saponin, sesquiterpene, and tannin.[See the wiki].
