I saw these plants and flowers at our starting point in descending to Malatan-og Falls in Salvador Benedicto last October 29, 2013.

Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis)

It looks like a pied fantail, but it lacks a white ring around its neck.Maybe it is a female? I hope a bird expert is reading this and be kind enough to identify this bird. Thanks in advance.

The bird has now been identified as Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis) by Dr. Paul Guerrero,
who says that one can differentiate from the pied fantails. Pied fantails are always fanning their tails and pirouetting and fantails have a white ring around their necks.

Beautiful weeds

I was walking along the Sum-ag Punta-taytay road after visiting the black sanded beach. These weeds were photographed near the Sacred Heart Memorial Park, the final resting place of my dear departed parents.
Even if these are weeds, one can see that the Lord has put beauty in these relatively ignore plants, plants which may have medicinal values!

Ruellia tuberosa

I have to admit, the flowers of the ruella tuberosa are much more regular rounded that that of our ruella simplex, but this species grows in the wild and in fact grows besides sidewalks and streets. Still the flowers are beautiful. Our specimen was found in Punta-taytay road besides the Sacred Heart Memorial Park in Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Rruella Simplex (Desert Petunia)

Tipolo (breadfruit) tree in Bacolod City.

The scientific name of this tree is Artocarpus blancoi.I found this specimen growing in Bgy Punta-taytay, Bacolod City and in Mag-aso Falls, Oringao, Kabankalan and of course even in U.P. Bliss Area, Philcoa, Quezon City. I hope it will be more widely known to Filipinos all over the country.

Related trees are the rimas, kamansi and dalungyan. It would be fun to differentiate between these.
